Great Season For Freedom And Wharton

Wharton Girls, Wharton Boys, and Freedom Boys, all made the playoffs this year, but none could advance beyond the Quarter Finals.

There were a lot of good things that happened to all of the teams, and they each enjoyed successful, albiet shorter seasons than they would have liked.

With FHSAA coming next year, it is VITAL that we:

RECRUIT ATHLETES for all of our teams, especially FREEDOM GIRLS.  Freedom NEEDS a girls team, in order for the boys to qualify, due to Title IX.

All you returning players, get STRONGER, get FASTER, work on your STICK SKILLS, and we hope, you come play for the CHILL!  This will bring us together and improve as a unit.

Great job to all, and thank you, to all the dedicated coaches for their tireless effort with out kids, and all the parents for your tremendous support!

Custom, LOCAL stringing!

Having trouble throwing accurately, it may be your stick.  DON'T learn to throw improperly, to adjust for a lousy stringing job...get it done to your specs!  Factory stringing is nearly unusable, buy unstrung heads, we'll take care of the rest!

Expert Local Stick Stringing, by the best in the area.  Traditional, mesh, and some other custom twists available!  All sticks are not strung the same.  Did you know that the shape of the head and alignment of the stringing holes require specific consideration?

Get your stick done to your liking...high, mid or low pocket, quick release or slower release, lots of hold, or less hold.  If you haven't been asked those questions before, come to us!  If you don't know for sure, tell us what position you play, and your style of play, and we can customize with that information!

After stringing support too!

Many onlines sites to shop from, as well as a few local outlets.  Unless you know your size and exactly what you need, shopping in person, is the way to go...

- Lacrosse Xtreme has an outstanding selection, and is located in a small plaza behind the Marathon gas station on the corner of Bearss and Florida.
     204 E. Bearss (813) 374-9264
- Play it Again stores do have minimal used equipment and the local stores have some new, but if you don't mind the drive, the store in the Britton Shopping Plaza on South Dale Mabry has a good selection too.
- Dicks Sporting Goods in Wesley Chapel has some equipment, and plenty for girls to choose from.

New Tampa Lacrosse Association Looking for New Representation on the Board

We are looking for new 'blood' in the NTLA board, to bring fresh ideas, and energy to our organization.

Many of our board members have been with us since the inception of the NTLA (no, wooden sticks weren't in use, then), and we could use the help from the parents of some of our younger players, who are interested in keeping the RAIDERS strong for years to come.

Things should be getting less complicated soon...if Freedom and Wharton high schools go FHSAA, they will no longer be the responsibility of the NTLA.

If you are interested, or would like to nominate anyone for a leadership role, please email Dan McCall at: ntlacrosse@verizon.net.

Go Raiders!

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY APPROVES LACROSSE AS A SANCTIONED SPORT FOR 2014!

Outstanding News for the Lacrosse faithful in Hillsborough counties, and certainly in Freedom and Wharton High Schools.

The Hillsborough County School Board unanimously approved lacrosse as a sanctioned varsity sport for the 2014 season!

Since we started the NTLA 8 years ago, this was our goal...this is an unbelievable milestone for our sons and daughters!

This will be a pay to play pilot of the 8 main schools in our county, plus we will be adding (and funding) Jefferson and Tampa Tech.

We may have been able to squeeze it in for 2013, but it would have been very tough, and we did not want to stumble, with the implementation of this pilot, which could be a set-back, as each year the program will be re-evaluated. This season, we will again play in the Florida Gulf Coast League, as we did last.

For 2013, the contract provides 'reasonable access' to the high schools, so we can recruit, gain acceptance and get practice space at high schools (if available, or a MS if no t). If we want to use the game field, we would still have to pay for it, but we may be able to get a better deal. We still have some processes to work out.

There are several folks who we owe this to, including Jon Levy from Steinbrenner, who started this initiative, New Tampa's own Bob Bolt was a critical player in this as well. If you see him while you're out and about, thank him! Ginger Bean also spent hours in these meetings to...thanks Ginger and Bob!

We will send you additional information shortly, I just wanted to get the good news out quickly!

Now go RECRUIT athletes who want to be part of the NEW BIG DEAL...and SANCTIONED SPORT!

Oh...and register for this season while you're at it, if you have not, at newtampalax.com! We want to close registrations on 11/30.

Thank you for all your support in getting this done. Your letters and participation today, were key!

Dan McCall and the New Tampa Board (smiling)!

Mission Statement

The primary goal of the NTLA is to develop student athletes of character and integrity who will serve as positive members of their school community and the greater society.   We believe the following objectives best serve our program's mission:

  • We will promote pride, unity, and confidence in the NTLA, in each of our teams, and the NTLA lacrosse family.
  • We will place primacy on our academic endeavors, and recognize the importance of intellectual growth
  • We will practice positive leadership and display the courage necessary to advocate just causes in the face of public or social pressures.
  • We will hold ourselves responsible and accountable for our thoughts, feelings, and actions; we recognize that we represent our schools, our families, and our community.
  • We understand the opportunities afforded us as members of a diverse student body and society.  Through our interactions on campus and in the broader community, we will demonstrate the virtues of compassion, sensitivity, and respect.

The NTLA has been founded on the values of family, community, and positive attitudes.  All members of our program will strive to uphold this tradition through hard work, professionalism, and loyalty.
